This is the bit worth having. A map full of dots is nice to look at once. Knowing the 1 to Portland is four hundred metres up the road is the thing you check every week.
Where this comes from and what it cannot do. Live positions are published by the bus operators to the Department for Transport's Bus Open Data Service, which updates every ten seconds. Stops come from NaPTAN, the official national stop register. Both are free and open. Two honest limits: not every bus reports its position all the time, so a route running perfectly well can show nothing, and a bus that stops reporting is removed after two minutes rather than left sitting frozen on the map pretending to be there.
